3. Abul Hasan- Khulna, November 2012
Back in 2012, the debutant Abul Hasan made history as he scored a courageous century in his maiden game against the visitors West Indies. The left-handed batter brought the landmark in Khulna. Winning the toss, the Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim decided to bat first, with Hasan becoming the top-scorer for the hosts with his flamboyant 113 runs off 123 deliveries.
Before his innings, Bangladesh were in trouble as their eight batters departed at a score of 193 runs. But after his arrival at the crease, things changed as he had a crucial stand of 184 runs with Mahmudullah, for the ninth wicket. With 14 fours and three sixes, Hasan racked up a century and helped his team to post a competitive total of 387 in the first innings. Currently, due to his spectacular century, he became the third Bangladesh batter to hit a ton on a debut Test contest.
However, the Caribbean riding on Marlon Samuels’s double century (260 runs) replied with their 648/9. Darren Bravo and veteran Shivnarine Chanderpaul also shone in the game with scores of 127 and 150 respectively. In the second innings, the Bangla Tigers failed to bear the pressure as they gave a target of only 27 runs putting up a mere 287 on the board. In the end, Hasan’s knock went into vain as the West Indies thrashed Bangladesh by 10 wickets.
