Bangladesh are placed in Group D in the T20 World Cup 2024 to be played in the West Indies from June 2 to June 29. They are in the group along with the Netherlands, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. Under their new skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, the Bangladesh side will be expected to display courage and give stiff competition to other sides in their group.

In the upcoming marquee T20I event, veteran Shakib Al Hasan might also return to the squad. Bangladesh team’s supporters will keep their expectations high from Shanto and Co. With the tournament just a few weeks away, let’s talk about Bangladesh’s probable 15-member squad.

Here is Bangladesh’s probable 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 -

1. Najmul Hossain Shanto

Najmul Hossain Shanto will be holding the reins of the Bangla team in the T20I World Cup in the Caribbean islands. His responsibility will be to lead the side from the front to deliver effective results to his team’s supporters. In the last T20 World Cup edition in 2022 held in Australia, he was the leading run-getter for Bangladesh.

Appearing in five games, he scored 180 runs at a strike rate of 114.64 with two fifties. The left-handed batter will look to do wonders with his leadership and batting prowess to help Bangladesh fare well in the upcoming tournament.

2. Litton Das

Litton Das’s job will be to open the innings for the side and deliver quality starts to the team. The right-handed batter has played two T20 World Cup editions in his nine-year international career. In both editions of the T20I event, he failed to be impactful with his bat.

This time, he will have to display his best as one of the senior players of the side and help his team create an impact in the competition. Das is the third-highest run-scorer for Bangladesh in cricket’s shortest format, with 1754 runs in 77 games at a strike rate of 129.62.

3. Soumya Sarkar

Soumya Sarkar showed up for Bangladesh in the last three T20I World Cups. In all three installments of the marquee event, he struggled to be among the runs but in the upcoming T20I World Cup, he will have to prove himself with his bat while batting at the top order.

4. Shakib Al Hasan

Bangladesh fans might witness Shakib Al Hasan’s return to the T20I format after 11 months. The veteran possesses a lot of experience in the shortest format of the sport and will endeavour to produce his best for the team with both bat and ball.

In the T20I World Cups, the 37-year-old is the most successful player for his team, with 742 runs and 47 wickets in 36 contests. His responsibility will be to set the benchmark for his junior colleagues with his all-round performance.

5. Mahmudullah

Mahmudullah might appear in the T20 World Cups for the last time with his appearance in the upcoming competition in the Caribbean islands. Along with Shakib, he is also one of the oldest servants of the Bangladesh cricket team. The side will heavily bank on the star all-rounder to be impactful in the upcoming edition of the T20I World Cup.

Discussing his numbers in the T20I World Cups, the all-round veteran has hit 363 runs in 26 innings out of 30 outings, at a strike rate of 110.63. The 38-year-old will strive to make his last T20I World Cup memorable with his performance.

6. Mahedi Hasan

Mahedi Hasan might be seen bolstering the team with his all-round skills. The 29-year-old was not a part of Bangladesh’s 2022 T20 World Cup squad but this time, he might bag an opportunity and feature in the Bangla team’s 15-member side. He has played 44 matches and scored 317 runs in 32 innings. With the ball, he has got 35 wickets in 42 innings at a thrifty economy of 6.61.

7. Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman will be seen spearheading Bangladesh’s pace attack in the T20 World Cup 2024. The Bangla team management will expect the 28-year-old to utilise his vast experience and cause damage to opponents with the ball. In his nine-year T20I career, he has claimed 107 wickets in 91 games at an economy of 7.62.

8. Taskin Ahmed

Taskin will look to assist Rahman efficiently in the upcoming competition. In the last T20 World Cup edition in Australia, Ahmed was the highest wicket-taker with eight wickets in five games at a frugal economy of 7.27. In the upcoming competition, his side will expect him to display his best with the ball.

9. Shoriful Islam

Shoriful Islam might be seen supporting his senior colleagues Rahman and Ahmed to provide strength to Bangladesh’s fast-bowling unit in the tournament coming ahead. The 22-year-old has appeared in 37 T20Is and has grabbed 42 wickets at an economy of 8.20. In his team’s last T20I series against Sri Lanka, he took two wickets in three contests at a frugal economy of 7.91.

Taijul Islam can be tasked to strengthen Bangladesh’s spin-bowling unit. The left-arm spinner will look to be disciplined with the ball and pose a threat to batters. The 32-year-old has played two T20Is, in which he has taken one wicket at an economy of 8.28.

11. Anamul Haque

Anamul Haque might tour with the Bangladesh side as a back-up wicket-keeper batter for the tournament. The 31-year-old has played 20 T20Is after donning Bangladesh’s jersey for the first time back in December 2012. He has hit 445 runs at a strike rate of 112.65 with a fifty.

12. Towhid Hridoy

Towhid Hridoy’s performance has been decent in cricket’s shortest format. In 14 T20Is, he has smashed 231 runs in 12 matches at a strike rate of 126.92 and an average of 23.10. He can be handed the task to reinforce the team while batting in the top order.

13. Rishad Hossain

The leg-break bowler Rishad Hossain has proven himself with the ball in recent times. Noting his prowess, the Bangla team management can show faith in him for the huge T20I competition. The 21-year-old has racked up six wickets in eight innings of nine matches at an impressive economy of 7.28.

14. Jaker Ali

Jaker Ali exuded confidence with his bat during his team’s T20I series against Sri Lanka. The 26-year-old played three contests and smashed 74 runs at a strike rate of 112.12 and an average of 37.00. In the opening T20I match, he produced a scintillating knock of 68 off just 34 in the crunch situation, while pursuing a massive target of 207 for his side.

15. Mohammad Naim

Mohammad Naim hasn’t been upto the mark in T20Is, however, despite noting his dismal numbers, the Bangla team management might pick him up as the 24-year-old has played a decent number of T20Is in Bangladesh colours. He has turned up in 35 T20Is and has scored 815 runs at a strike rate of 103.42.
