4. Ben Stokes
England got knocked out of the World Cup 2023 after registering a 33-run defeat at the hands of Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Throughout the competition, England’s vital stalwarts failed to showcase their best which resulted in the defending champions’ debacle.
This week, the English side thumped the Netherlands by 160 runs and tasted their second win in the tournament. Ben Stokes made a crucial contribution with his bat in the comprehensive win, smashing his maiden World Cup ton. Riding on the southpaw’s 108 off 84, the English side crossed the 300-run mark for the second time in this competition.
Stokes also became the recipient of the Player of the Match award for his notable innings. Earlier, in the week, the 32-year-old hit a half-century against the Aussies in Ahmedabad. However, his effort went in vain as the Pat Cummins-led side held their nerves and bagged the game.
