There was a time when Sri Lanka used to have an exceptional wicketkeeper like Kumar Sangakkara. After the 2015 World Cup, the legendary keeper hung up his boots and since then, the 1996 champions tried players such as Dinesh Chandimal, Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Perera, and Kusal Mendis in the keeping role.

In the 2023 World Cup, Mendis is handling the keeping mantle. Mendis was part of Sri Lanka’s 2019 World Cup squad but then his senior colleague Kusal Perera was donning the keeping gloves for the team. This time, the Sri Lanka team management has given the keeping responsibility to Mendis.

The 28-year-old Mendis has served his team behind the wickets in 36 ODI innings and in these appearances, he has chipped in with 40 dismissals. Mendis hardly makes any mistakes as a wicketkeeper and also has the capability to grab blinders superbly.
