MS Dhoni is considered the most successful Indian captain in white-ball cricket. Under him, India clinched the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. He is the only captain to win all major-white ball trophies as a skipper in international cricket.

In the 2011 World Cup, India were the hosts and they were expected to reclaim the trophy after 28 years. The Men in Blue didn’t disappoint their supporters under the sensational captaincy of Dhoni and won the title. In the final game against Sri Lanka, Dhoni led from the front and took the team home with his unbeaten 91-run innings off 79 deliveries batting at number four.

Virender Sehwag, who was serving India as an opener during the 2011 World Cup, revealed in June 2023 during a chat with Sri Lanka spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan for the International Cricket Council (ICC) that Dhoni ate only khichdi, an Indian dish made of rice of lentils, throughout the marquee ODI event. The former India opener said Dhoni’s superstition was working in India’s favour as the team was winning games.
