Cricketers reimagined as marvel superheroes: Who would get what role?

In India, cricketers, especially Indian cricketers are worshipped like heros with most of them having die-hard fans. Especially in the age of social media, cricketers have become sort of demigods with their fans worshipping them. Cricketers are known for doing things that common people cannot, one of them is representing their country in the sport of cricket. Apart from them, they also indulge in charity work and are inspirations for youngsters to take up the game of cricket seriously and pursue their dream of playing for their country. In short, cricketers are nothing but superheroes for their fans, and keeping this in mind, here are a few cricketers who have been reimagined as superheroes, based on the kind of personality and cricketing prowess they possess. Let's look at the cricketers reimagined as Marvel superheroes: 1. Rishabh Pant – Spiderman Rishabh Pant and Spiderman. At a young age, he established himself as a regular starter in the Indian Team and quickly took over from MS Dhoni as wicketkeeper. Currently, he is out of action as he recovers from his near-fatal accident which happened last year. Pant is known for his agility, given that he practised gymnastics when he was young. Pant has also made a reputation for being the funniest one on the field. When Pant makes hilarious jokes and delivers funny one-liners, they get recorded on the stump mic. For this, he has earned the moniker of Spiderman. He got this superhero nickname from Gabba Test, due to his athleticism. Marcus Stoinis – Hulk Marcus Stoinis and Hulk. He made his Australia debut in 2015 in T20Is. So far he has played 64 ODIs, scoring 1400 runs and taking 44 wickets. He has one century in 50-over format and his best bowling is 3/16. He has also played 54 T20Is, scoring 846 runs and taking 23 wickets. Known for his bulky physique and broad shoulders, Marcus Stoinis is like the Hulk from Marvel comics and movies. Hulk is big, green, and always angry and is the alter ego of Dr., Bruce Banner. Similarly, Marcus Stoinis is big, gets hyped up easily to perform at optimal levels, and gives his best for the Australian team. 3. Smriti Mandhana- Wanda Maximoff Smriti Mandhana and Wanda Maximoff 1. (Photo Source: Twitter) Smriti Mandhana of India is one of the most liked and followed cricketers in the world at the moment. Not only is she amazingly talented on the field, but also has a likeable personality off the field, which comes out on social media. She is the heartthrob of many young Indian cricket fans as well. Mandhana, currently the vice-captain of the Indian team, has the ability to do whatever the Women in Blue wants her to do. She is like Wanda Maximoff from the Marvel Universe. Like Wanda’s power of telekinesis, Mandhana is able to focus hard on her goal of winning matches for the Indian team. Harmanpreet Kaur - Captain Marvel Harmanpreet Kaur and Captain Marvel. She recently captained the Indian women’s team to the gold medal in the ongoing Asian Games in China. India defeated Sri Lanka in the final match in Hangzhou to clinch the gold medal. Harmanpreet is akin to Captain Marvel of the Marvel Universe. Captain Marvel has abilities of superhuman strength, speed, endurance, stamina, and physical durability. Harmanpreet Kaur also displays the same traits when it comes to playing cricket and always gives her best in the middle. She leads from the front and is known for winning matches from impossible situations. 5. Kapil Dev- Captain America Kapil Dev and Captain America. The arrival of Kapil Dev led to young cricketers taking up fast bowling as before that Indian team was known for its spin prowess. However, his biggest achievement came in 1983 when he led a young Indian team to the World Cup glory in England. The then 24-year-old Kapil Dev led the Indian team to victories over West Indies (twice), England, and Australia, while delivering an all-time great performance of 175* against Zimbabwe. It would be safe to say that Kapil Dev was the Captain America of the Indian team as he led the team to World Cup glory by leading from the front and encouraging his troops in dire situations like facing two-time World Champs West Indies in the final and defending just 183 runs at Lord’s. He did what Captain America does in Marvel movies, fight till the end and be an inspiration for his fellow superheroes. 6. Ellyse Perry - Black Widow Ellyse Perry and Black Widow. Perry has not only played cricket for Australia but was good enough to play for Australia in football and participated in the Women’s Football World Cup. She then focused on cricket and has been one of the best in business. A genuine all-rounder, Perry's mastery of both batting and fast bowling disciplines is reflected in several statistical achievements—she was the first player to amass a combined 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in T20Is, she holds the record for the highest score by an Australian woman in Test matches (213*), and she was the third player to claim 150 wickets in women's ODIs. Ellyse Perry is like the red-haired Marvel comics agent Black Widow. Like Widow, Perry is highly intelligent which shows off in her batting and bowling. He began as a footballer in school, who kept wickets and graduated from that to one of the best captains the world has seen. Dr. Strange could see and predict the future and had lots of spells and magic on his fingers to help him out. And it is the same thing with MS Dhoni, who can turn the game with his sharp mind from behind the stumps and is always one step ahead of his opposition. He is supremely confident of his abilities with the gloves and the bat. If there are 15 runs to get in the last over to win the match and MS Dhoni is at the crease, it is often said that it is the bowler who is under pressure and not MS Dhoni. He encouraged and backed new talent and has left a rich legacy behind. 8. Virat Kohli - Iron Man Virat Kohli and Iron Man. Considered to be one of the all-time greats, Virat Kohli has played 111 Tests, 281 ODIs, and 115 T20Is for India since 2008. He has scored 8676, 13083, and 4008 runs respectively in all formats. He also has 29 Test, 47 ODI, and 1 T20I hundred to his name, totalling 77 international centuries. One can easily equate Virat Kohli with the Marvel Universe’s Iron Man or Tony Stark. Stark is a technological genius, while Kohli is a cricketing genius. Both are good-looking and stylish and both are rich. Recently a report suggested that Kohli was worth well over INR 1,000 crores in brand value. Apart from this, like Stark, Kohli is a born leader who took India to new heights in cricket. He can be likened to Black Panther of Marvel movies, who had superior tech helping him out apart from his abilities. Archer bowled at over 90 mph with a beautiful action which was just very pretty to look at and helped England win their maiden ODI World Cup at home. He is no mug with the bat, winning a few games in the IPL. Like Black Panther, he can lead and come back from any setback and all are waiting for him to be back on the field completely healed and raring to go. 10. Rohit Sharma – Thor Rohit Sharma and Thor (Photo Source: Twitter) Thor is the god of Thunder in Norse mythology and India captain Rohit Sharma can easily be called Thor, given that he is also built bulkily like his Marvel counterpart. Rohit Sharma, considered to be a white-ball cricket great, also has an envious record in Test matches. In 251 ODIs and 148 T20Is, Rohit has 10112 and 3853 runs respectively. In 52 Tests, he has 3677 runs. Overall, Rohit Sharma has made 30 ODI, 10 Test, and 4 T20I centuries. He is the only batter with three ODI double centuries and holds the record for the highest individual score in ODIs. Thor wields a powerful magical hammer named Mjolnir and Rohit Sharma wields his powerful bat and quick sense of picking ball’s lengths. Like Thor summons thunder at his will, Rohit can hit sixes at his will and has the second most sixes in international cricket. 11. Jasprit Bumrah – Quicksilver Jasprit Bumrah and Quicksilver. Known for his awkward bowling action, Bumrah set the stage during his first few IPL matches and was quickly introduced to international cricket. He has taken the world of cricket on fire and has developed into a very clever bowler who can win India the game in any situation. If Bumrah was a superhero, he would be Quicksilver as the pacer can be fast whenever he wants to and has hit the higher 145kphs with ease when he wants to hurry the batter. Bumrah also has a killer yorker to boot for and like Quicksilver, is also a clever-thinking bowler. 12. Ravindra Jadeja – Hawkeye Ravindra Jadeja and Hawkeye. The Saurashtra cricketer is also one of the leading all-rounders in the world today and is a vital cog in the Indian team. He has played 67 Tests, 186 ODIs, and 64 T20Is for India, picking 275, 204 and 51 wickets respectively. Jadeja is also no mug with the bat, having 3 Test centuries to his name and valuable contributions with the bat in limited overs as well. He is also known to hit the stumps directly while prowling at point and backward point areas. This makes him akin to Marvel superhero Hawkeye, who is a master marksman with arrows. Like Hawkeye never misses his targets, Ravindra Jadeja seldom misses the stumps with his direct hits. And not only from inside the circle, Jadeja has also made direct hits from the boundaries as well, making him a deadly fielder anywhere on the ground.
