First ever Indian captain to win the World Cup in 1983, Kapil Dev is considered to be the best fast bowling all-rounder India produced for a long time since Mohammad Nissar and Amar Singh in the 1930s.

The arrival of Kapil Dev led to young cricketers taking up fast bowling as before that Indian team was known for its spin prowess. However, his biggest achievement came in 1983 when he led a young Indian team to the World Cup glory in England.

The then 24-year-old Kapil Dev led the Indian team to victories over West Indies (twice), England, and Australia, while delivering an all-time great performance of 175* against Zimbabwe.

It would be safe to say that Kapil Dev was the Captain America of the Indian team as he led the team to World Cup glory by leading from the front and encouraging his troops in dire situations like facing two-time World Champs West Indies in the final and defending just 183 runs at Lord’s.

He did what Captain America does in Marvel movies, fight till the end and be an inspiration for his fellow superheroes.
