Cricket has grown in popularity since the inception of 20-over cricket. The sport got revolutionized after the BCCI introduced the Indian Premier League, a first-of-its-kind cricket tournament where a mix of homegrown and international cricketers entered in a franchise-based format. Each IPL side then went on to become super popular because of the batters they had and the amount of runs that they put up on the board to entertain the fans, especially those who needed to relish after a hectic day at work.
Ones and Twos, Fours and Sixes, Cameos and Fifties - all excite the fans as much as they do for the batters involved. Only a handful of batters have scored a fifty-plus score against all the teams taking part in IPL 2025, and only player is featuring in the ongoing edition, whereas the other has retired. The batters being talked about are Faf du Plessis and Shikhar Dhawan.
Dhawan put curtains on his professional career in 2024 and, thus, called an end to his 16-year-long IPL career. South Africa's du Plessis, on the other hand, is playing for Delhi Capitals in 2025 as their premier opening batter. Both of them are the only two batters to have made a fifty against all the teams who are taking part in the latest season of the cash-rich league.
Faf Du Plessis has represented Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) previously, scoring over 4,500 runs across 145 games. He has a total of 37 fifties in the league, and these include a fifty-plus score against all the oppositions, which makes him only among the two players to do so.
Shikhar Dhawan, who has represented teams like Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings, is also the batter with most boundaries in the Indian Premier League history. The southpaw called it quits after the 2024 season, and had scored 6769 runs across 222 matches played.
He also breached the landmark of 51 half-centuries in IPL, making him the most decorated players to have graced the league. His supremacy as an opener stands out, as he made runs when the opposition was the toughest. Against the five-time champions Chennai Super Kings, Dhawan scored nine out of his total number of fifties in the mega tournament. For the unversed, Dhawan is also the second-highest run-getter in IPL after Virat Kohli.
