IND vs ENG 2025: 3 players who can make big impact for England in 3rd ODI against India

The 4-1 drubbing which England suffered in the T20I series against India was one of the least expected outcomes. After that, a better showing was expected from the tourists in the 50-over segment. However, the first couple of matches have shown little indication that England have tried to learn from the mistakes. Both the games have been won by the hosts by an identical four-wicket margin, with one final outing, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, remaining.

England would be keen on closing out the series on a strong note. However, the conditions in store will definitely be demanding. A hot and humid day is forecast for the game, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, Feburary 12.

3. Adil Rashid

Adil Rashid was quite impressive with his subtle changes of pace in the series opener. He was England's best bowler on the day, scalping a couple of wickets in his 10-over spell while conceding 49 runs. The leg-spinner was uncharacteristically expensive in the subsequent match.

On a challenging track in Ahmedabad which offers not too much assistance to the spinners, Rashid's guile and variations are bound to play a decisive impact on how the Indian batting lineup would end up faring. The crafty bowler might also be required to regulate the flow of runs from one end. 

2. Joe Root

It was a severely underwhelming display by Joe Root on his return to ODI cricket after the World Cup since November 2023. The former skipper could only score 19 before getting rapped on the pads by a 100 kph skidder in the first game before he ended up scoring 69 off 72 in the second. The seasoned batter will be expected to carry on the from the game in Cuttack.

There will be expectations from the senior player to lead the batting lineup during the upcoming edition of the Champions Trophy. The third ODI serves as a perfect opportunity for Root to polish his batting skills. 

1. Ben Duckett

Ben Duckett has been amongst the few players from the English side to feature in all seven games of the series ahead of the upcoming contest. The 56-ball 65 in the previous encounter has been the southpaw's highest score on this tour.

In collaboration with his opening partner Phil Salt, Duckett would be anticipated to get his side off to a positive start. The pitch in Ahmedabad is expected to be a belter.
