Mohammed Siraj was not impressive in the Test series against Bangladesh. The right-arm pacer took four wickets in two games bowling 41.1 overs. He was expected to come among wickets in the first Test against New Zealand, but the bowler managed two wickets. With Akash Deep having picked five wickets five wickets in the Bangladesh series, India might consider Akash for the Pune Test.

It is worth noting that, Siraj has played 13 Tests at home and has picked only 19 wickets at an average of 36.15. Whereas Akash Deep has impressed in three Tests, picking eight wickets in five innings he has bowled in. On the other hand, Siraj took two wickets in the first innings and none in the second of the first Test. He could not put up his best performance on the table in the second innings when it was much needed for the team as the visitors needed only 107 runs to win the first Test.
