India will miss the services of Axar Patel in the upcoming India vs New Zealand ODI series. The 28-year-old will not participate in the bilateral competition due to family commitments. In Axar’s absence, the team management has shown faith in Bengal all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed, who played three games for India last year.
In October 2022, Ahmed made his international debut against South Africa in an ODI game against Ranchi. Playing his maiden ODI series, he showcased his bowling skills in a couple of matches, claiming three scalps in two matches at an economy of 5.05.
In the forthcoming India vs New Zealand ODI series, Ahmed will expect the team management to induct him into playing XI. However, that might not happen as captain Rohit Sharma and coach Rahul Dravid could avail of experienced Washington Sundar's services, which means Ahmed could be seen warming benches in the competition.
