The player auction for the 16th edition of the Indian Premier League concluded on December 23 as franchises broke their bank to acquire top-drawer players from around the world. The likes of Sam Curran (INR 18.5 crore), Cameron Green (INR 17.5 crore), Ben Stokes (INR 16.25 crore), and Nicholas Pooran (INR 16 crore) were some biggest earners at the auction.
However, teams were not only eager to pick international quality players but also cricketers who have done well in the domestic cricketing circles.
Here are three lesser-known faces who bagged big bucks at the IPL 2023 auction:
3. Mayank Dagar
Mayank Dagar has been a bankable name in the Indian domestic circuit. The 26-year-old has featured in 31 first-class matches and bagged 93 scalps at an average of 30.97. He has been outstanding in the shortest format too and bagged 44 wickets as many matches at an economy of 6.17.
Dagar was phenomenal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 and strangled batters with his impeccable lines and lengths. He featured in seven games in the tournament and bagged 12 wickets at an impressive economy of 5.22.
Dagar is a wily customer and has shown his ability to bowl at any phase of the game. Thus, when he arrived at the auction, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals went all guns blazing to add him to their arsenal. Ultimately, SRH signed the left-arm spinner at INR 1.8 crore.
