Robin Uthappa decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket on September 14. The Karnataka-born was an Indian Premier League legend and has been part of the marquee event since its inception. In his illustrious career, the 36-year-old played 205 matches and accumulated 4952 at a strike rate of 130.55.
Uthappa was part of the Chennai Super Kings franchise for the last two years. He was instrumental in CSK’s IPL triumph in 2021. The veteran batter’s retirement has led to CSK left wanting for experience in the middle order. The four-time IPL champions will need to find a suitable replacement for the Indian batter. Let us look at some players whom CSK can pick to replace Robin Uthappa in next year’s IPL auction.
5 Players who can replace Robin Uthappa in CSK:
5. Mandeep Singh
Mandeep Singh has been around the IPL circuit for more than a decade. The Punjab-born batter has shown a lot of promise but is yet to make it big on a big stage.
The 30-year-old is a 108-match IPL veteran and has accumulated 1692 runs at a strike rate of 123.32. He is a solid batter and is flexible to move up and down the batting. CSK like these kinds of versatile players and could rope in Mandeep who is expected to be available for the next auction.
Mandeep had quite a poor outing for Delhi Capitals in the 2022 season. In the three chances he got, the solid batter could only manage to score 18 runs. With the DC side already bolstered with match-winners in the top order, the right-handed batter’s release is definitely on the cards.
