IPL 2023: 5 Players CSK might trade in trading window

Chennai Super Kings have been the second-most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League with four IPL triumphs against their name. However, CSK had an awful campaign in IPL 2022 and were nowhere close to the intimidating side of the old. Chennai franchise finished second-last with just four wins in 14 games and some key players were not able to perform as per the expectations. Reportedly, there were rifts within the camp and that did not help either. The four-time IPL champions need to start their rebuilding act and the trading window would present a golden opportunity to do so. The team management could let go of certain players who do not fit in the scheme of things going forward. Let us look at players CSK will trade in the forthcoming trading window. 5 Players CSK might trade in the trading window: 5. Tushar Deshpande Tushar Deshpande has been a consistent performer in the Indian domestic circuit. In 23 first-class matches, the 27-year-old has taken 57 wickets for Mumbai. He also showed his bowling might in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22 season where he bagged eight wickets in four games at an impressive economy of 7.00. The Chennai franchise looked at Deshpande as an exciting prospect and picked him at the 2022 IPL Auction. With Deepak Chahar out injured, the Mumbai pacer got a few chances to show his skills with the ball but he was not able to make the best use of the opportunities. Deshpande played two games for the Men in Yellow and managed to take a single wicket and conceded runs at an economy of 9.00. With Mukesh Choudhary's outstanding showing in this year’s IPL which saw him take 16 wickets in 13 games, CSK might not stick with Mumbai speedster for the further seasons and release him in the forthcoming trading window. 4. KM Asif KM Asif is one of those Indian fast-bowlers who can clock speeds over 140 kmph consistently. The CSK management decided to re-invest in him and thus picked the speedster at the 2022 Mega Auction for a base price of 20 lakhs. The 29-year-old has been associated with the Chennai team since 2018 but has just featured in three games and bagged four wickets at a high economy of 11.39. Further, Asif did not feature in any game during the recently culminated IPL season. The Chennai side picked the likes of Mukesh Choudhary, Simranjeet Singh, and Tushar Deshpande to slot in the starting XI ahead of Asif. With the Kerela speedster being so behind in the pecking order, his exit from the Yellow army could be on the cards. 3. Adam Milne Adam Milne performed incredibly well in the inaugural edition of the Hundred in 2021. He took 12 wickets for Birmingham Phoenix at an impeccable economy of 5.73. His stocks were on a rise and CSK added him to their arsenal in the recently culminated edition of IPL. CSK already had the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Dwaine Pretorious, and Maheesh Theekshana in the bowling stocks and with the trio fairing well for the franchise, the speedster was never going to be the first choice pacer. Moreover, he got injured as well. Milne was not able to have a telling impact on the outcome of the lone match he played and went wicketless in the game. With Milne being injury prone, it does appear that Milne will be in the plans of the four-time IPL champions going forward. The New Zealand bowler could be released in the near future and other teams might look to draft in the gun-bowler in the trading window. 2. Chris Jordan Chris Jordan has been a proven performer in the T20 circuit. He has shown his bowling prowess for England time and time again but has not been able to set the Indian Premier League on fire with his displays with the ball. At the IPL Auction 2022, CSK picked Jordan to address their death-bowling concerns but the veteran bowler was not able to perform as per the team’s expectations. In the four games, the 33-year-old was only able to pick two wickets and leaked runs at an economy of 10.52. After the poor outings, Jordan was dropped from the team. The Chennai franchise did not give the England player another run and it appears the think tank has moved beyond the ace-bowler. The Barbados-born could be in line to get traded in the upcoming trading window. 1. Ravindra Jadeja Ravindra Jadeja has been one of the top all-rounders in world cricket and has shown in mettle in the IPL arena as well. Ahead of the 2022 season, the 33-year-old was handed over the captaincy duties as MS Dhoni stepped down from the role. However, the new captain was not able to inspire his side to a string of victories and CSK stood on a brink of an early exit. Also, Jadeja was far from his vintage self with the bat and ball and it seemed the captaincy had taken a toll on his form. Thus, CSK decided to sack the veteran all-rounder from captaincy and MS Dhoni was given Chennai's reins again. The 33-year-old then was sidelined due to injury and there were talks of him being unhappy with the management. The dispute between Jadeja and the administration appeared to grow as the ace all-rounder deleted all his Instagram posts related to CSK recently. Amidst all the tension, it is likely that the Chennai franchise will trade the veteran player in the upcoming trading window. This will also release a staggering sum of INR 16 crore which could be used to build the side. Despite a poor outing in IPL 2022 which saw him score just 116 runs at a strike of 118.37, the southpaw is still regarded as one of the best in business and many franchises could try to rope in the CSK all-rounder.
