In the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League(IPL), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended up in the third position after losing to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2. For the franchise, it was a close but no-cigar situation, but this time, Faf du Plessis and his men will look to be at their best and have their hands on the prestigious trophy.
Last month, RCB purchased a couple of English names and a few domestic players at the mini-auction for IPL 16. However, they could’ve roped in some recent performers at the event and strengthened themselves. The franchise also had a chance to replace the last edition’s non-performing names with these players who looked in good touch in the last few months. They should've signed a couple of veterans too who play for Karnataka and have featured for RCB also in the past. Both these names are credible as well as they have rich history in the league. Going through these facts, it could be said that the franchise should've signed these two names too along with recent performers.
Here are five players who’ve RCB should’ve gone after at the mini-auction:
5. Vidwath Kaverappa
Vidwath Kaverappa made his domestic T20 debut in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 and looked exceptional with the ball clinching 18 wickets for Karnataka in eight matches at an economy of 6.36. With this bowling performance, he became the second-highest wicket-taker in the tournament. The youngster was unstoppable
The youngster showcased his bowling skills again in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022-23, taking 17 scalps in eight games at an impressive economy of 3.53. Following these phenomenal numbers of the pacer, Punjab Kings signed him at INR 20 lakh at the mini-auction in Kochi last month.
However, RCB should’ve invested in the Karnataka youngster at the grand event as he could’ve bolstered the team’s fast-bowling unit with his pace bowling abilities. The local boy might’ve become the best option to replace the 32-year-old, Siddharth Kaul, who got only one game from RCB last year and looked out of colour.
