1. Mayank Agarwal

Mayank Agarwal is arguably one of the finest opening batters going around in the Indian circuit and has proven his mettle in the Indian Premier League time and time again.  The 31-year-old has featured in 113 games and accumulated 2327 runs at a strike rate of 134.28.

Punjab Kings retained the Bangalore-born for the 15th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament and paid a staggering sum of INR 14 crore to acquire his services. However, Mayank did not perform as per his lofty standards and scored just 196 runs in 13 games at a strike rate of 122.50. After the Indian batter’s mediocre performances, the Punjab-born parted ways with him.

Mayank has the ability to take top-quality attacks to the cleaners and can also steady the ship if his team is in trouble. The dashing stoke-maker is an excellent payer of both spin and pace and one poor season could not undermine how good a player he has been in the cash-rich league. Thus, it was quite a surprise when the ace batter kept his base price to INR 1 crore for the 2023 IPL auction.

Mayank is one of those players who can very well be the most expensive player at the auction as there are not many international quality Indian batters as good as him featuring at the event. Therefore, the elegant batter could have kept himself in the higher price bracket.
