7. Jhye Richardson
Mumbai Indians had roped in Jhye Richardson’s at his base price of INR 1.5 crore for their 2023 IPL season. In the last IPL edition, the franchise missed Jofra Archer, who didn’t participate in the tournament due to an elbow injury. Without Archer, Jasprit Bumrah, the premier bowler of the team, didn’t get enough support from other pacers to build pressure on the opponents.
For this season, the franchise believed in Richardson to add strength to MI’s pace attack. However, the Aussie bowler will miss the upcoming T20 event due to a hamstring strain that he sustained while playing a match in the Big Bash League (BBL). Following the injury, he couldn’t feature in Perth Scorchers’ final game against Brisbane Heat.
He was included in Australia’s ODI team for the India series but the strain again hindered his chances to serve his national squad. Eventually, the injury won the final battle as it succeeded in keeping the 26-year-old away from the ODI tournament against the Men in Blue. However, after all these developments, his IPL franchise will look to get a quality player as his replacement.
