Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) revamped themselves in the 2022 IPL mega-auction after their underperformance in the tournament from 2019-21 seasons. The franchise spent a decent amount at the event and picked up some quality players. Shreyas Iyer, the most expensive buy at the auction, found a place in the side and was handed the captaincy mantle.
Under his leadership, Knight Riders started well in 2022 but couldn’t advance to the next round. This year, KKR fans are expecting their team to perform exceptionally and give them a sight of lifting the trophy after nine years. But before even getting into the drills of the competition, Iyer injured himself during the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23.
This injury might obligate the KKR skipper’s chances to make it to his team’s 2023 squad. In the previous edition, Iyer was the highest run-getter for his team. The spunky middle order batter notched up 401 runs with the help of three half-centuries in 14 matches, at a strike rate of 134.56.
