IPL 2023: Ranking top 10 captains
Among skippers, some looked confident while a few failed to deliver desired results to their teams.
7. Nitish Rana {KKR} - 6/10
With Shreyas Iyer’s unavailability, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) named Nitish Rana their skipper for the 2023 installment. Going through Rana’s captaincy record in domestic cricket for Delhi, KKR trusted him to hand over the reins of the team.
In their maiden IPL 2023 match, they lost against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Stadium. Following the defeat in the first match, they came back stronger and won two consecutive games against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT).
Their performance later went down as they lost four back-to-back games. Throughout the tournament, Knight Riders remained inconsistent under Rana’s ineffective captaincy and concluded their campaign in the league round in the seventh spot, with six victories and eight losses in 14 games. Rana’s batting numbers were decent in the competition as he became the second-highest run-scorer for Kolkata with 413 runs in 14 games, at a strike rate of 140.95.
