5. Kolkata Knight Riders
The 2-time IPL champions are having to deal with a huge blow in absence of their regular skipper and India player Shreyas Iyer, after he suffered a back injury in the Border Gavaskar trophy. The management has named Nitish Rana as the skipper of KKR for this season.
After excluding Shreyas, they still have some experienced IPL players in their arsenal, one of them being the newly-appointed skipper himself. Looking at their squad, the best possible options in the Top 3 are Rahmanullah Gurbaz/ Liton Das, N Jagadeesan and Nitish Rana. In the middle order, they have Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer, who played at No.4 in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, 2022.
In the lower middle order, they have Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Shardul Thakur who could be crucial power-hitters, giving them depth in batting as well. But, in the absence of a proper Indian international, they could be slightly vulnerable to the quality bowling attack of the IPL teams. They could try out different arrangements with these players in the Top 7 in order to figure out the perfect match-winning combination. On a scale of 1-10, this batting unit can be given 7.8 / 10.
