IPL 2023: 3 changes DC need to make to get back to winning ways

In the absence of their regular captain Rishabh Pant, Delhi Capitals (DC) aren’t doing well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Under the leadership of David Warner, Capitals have lost all their three games so far, failing to put up any fight against their rivals. The Delhi batters have perpetually failed to score big, leading to unfavourable outcomes in their fixtures played so far.

The story is more or less the same with their bowlers as well, as they seemed to be lacking discipline, failing to rack up wickets for the team.

In the upcoming games, DC will strive to be impactful to advance to the Playoff round and they will look to start their journey by routing the underconfident Mumbai Indians (MI) at their home ground, Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, to do that, they will have to make some stiff changes in their playing XI.

Here are three changes DC will look to do for their contest against MI:

3. Kamlesh Nagarkoti in for Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed has failed to provide decent starts to Capitals in the last two games. In the first match, he took two wickets and gave 30 runs in his four-over spell. However, his performance wasn't up to the mark against Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). 

While defending 162 against Gujarat Titans, he took Hardik Pandya’s scalp but splurged runs at an expensive economy of 9.50. Against RR, the pacer’s struggle got worse as he became the most expensive bowler of the match, giving away 31 runs in two overs at an economy of 15.50. He also struggled to pick a wicket in the game.

With three back-to-back losses in a row, DC are desperately looking for positive results and they will look to make some changes for the next game against MI. Instead of including Ahmed in the playing XI, the team management could bank on Nagarkoti, who exuded confidence in the last major T20 tournament, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23. In the competition, he hunted seven batters in seven games at an economy of 7.33.
