The defending champions Gujarat Titans started their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign with a victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In the absence of their star player David Miller, GT gave a chance to New Zealand’s white-ball captain Kane Williamson in their playing XI. However, Williamson hurt his knee while saving a boundary for his team while fielding.
The injury has ruled Williamson out from the tournament and there is buzz around who can be an ideal replacement for the Kiwi batter. The Titans will now look forward to adding a name that could fill Williamson’s shoes and solidify their batting line-up.
Here are three players who can replace Kane Williamson at Gujarat Titans:
3. Dawid Malan
Dawid Malan’s batting records are fabulous in international cricket. Serving England in 59 T20Is, the left-handed batter has accumulated 1810 runs in 58 matches at a strike rate of 134.07. His name went under the hammer in the 2023 IPL auction but no franchise raised its bidding paddle to sign him.
In 2021, Punjab Kings (PBKS) roped in Malan but the England batter failed to turn up against bowlers in a match against Delhi Capitals (DC), scoring only 26 off 26. However, GT could give Malan the task to fill Williamson’s spot in the team.
The 35-year-old has also played a lot of league cricket and is a huge name in The Hundred Competition of England. He was the highest run-scorer in the tournament in 2022, with 377 runs in nine matches at a scintillating strike rate of 166.81.
