2. Varun Chakravarthy’s 4/15 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
After a gap of nearly three years, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) celebrated their homecoming by vanquishing Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 81 runs. Faf du Plessis, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain, emerged as the winner of the coin flip and elected to field first.
RCB bowlers demolished KKR’s top order and brought joy to the faces of their supporters. However, the 42-run partnership between Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rinku Singh and a spectacular 68-run knock off just 29 deliveries from Shardul Thakur turned the tables, and Knight Riders ended their innings at 204/7.
While defending the total, Knight Riders struggled against RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis, but with the former’s dismissal at the hands of Sunil Narine, KKR bowlers got a chance to dominate the visitors.
Varun Chakravarthy, who picked up 4/15 with the ball, played an essential role in his team’s one-sided win. The mystery spinner claimed RCB’s key batters Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell in his praiseworthy bowling spell of 3.4 overs.
