IPL 2024: CSK vs PBKS, Match 49- Top 3 player battles to watch out for

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in match 49 of IPL 2024 on Wednesday. The match will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. CSK have so far won five matches out of the 9 they have played and PBKS have won just three matches out of the 9 matches they have played so far in the tournament. 

Chennai Super Kings have won five titles so far in the history of the IPL whereas Punjab Kings are yet to win their maiden title. The last season of the tournament where Ravindra Jadeja was the star of the finals with his saviour attitude helped CSK win IPL 2023. 

Here are the top three player battles to watch out for in CSK vs PBKS, Match 49 of IPL 2024:

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad vs Arshdeep Singh

Chennai Super Kings' skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in a commendable form this IPL season. He has constantly performed well and helped the team score a decent yet challenging score for the opponents. In 9 matches he has scored 447 runs at an average of 63.85 with a strike rate of 149.49. He is the second-highest run-scorer after Virat Kohli in IPL 2024. His best score is 108 not out. 

On the other hand, Punjab Kings' star bowler Arshdeep Singh has been putting up a good performance for his team. He has taken 12 wickets with an economy of 9.64 in 9 matches. He is currently in the sixth position on the Purple Cap table. His Best Bowling in a match has been when he took four wickets and gave up just 29 runs. 

It would be really intriguing and exciting to see both the best players from their respective teams perform in their first encounter of the season.

2. Shivam Dube vs Sam Curran

Shivam Dube is an all-rounder for CSK who has been a consistent performer in IPL 2023 season. However, we are yet to see him perform like last season in IPL 2024. In 9 matches he has scored 350 runs with an average of 58.33 and at a strike rate of 172.41. His best score in this season is when he scored 66*. 

PBKS' left-arm medium-fast bowler made his IPL debut in 2021, picking 13 wickets. In IPL 2024, he has been in good form as so far he has picked up 12 wickets in nine matches with an economy of 10.18.  His best bowling in a match is 2/32. It is going to be interesting to watch both these players face off against each other.

3. Jonny Bairstow vs Tushar Deshpande

Jonny Bairstow is one of the cleanest strikers of the ball and can win matches for his team on his own. PBKS bought him for Rs 6.75 crores. In a match against KKR this season, he played like a storm where he scored 108*. In 7 matches he has scored 204 runs with an average of 34.00 and a strike rate of 168.60.

CSK 's last match star performer Tushar Deshpande scalped 4 wickets giving away 27 runs in his 3 overs. He dismissed  SRH's star opening batters Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma which gave CSK a boost in the match. He has been performing really well in IPL 2024. In 9 matches he has 10 dismissals to his name with an economy of 8.66.

It will be an interesting face-off between the two players in their first match. Both the players have performed really well in IPL 2024 so far.
