8. Nuwan Thushara (Mumbai Indians)
Mumbai Indians’ goal in the IPL 2024 auction was to buy the best of the bowlers to enhance their bowling unit. They had released the likes of Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Jhye Richardson, Riley Meredith, and Mohd. Arshad Khan. With the influence of their Sri Lankan coaches Mahela Jayawardena and Lasith Malinga, MI went hard for Lankan pacers in the auction.
As a result, Dilshan Madushanka was bought for INR 4.6 Cr, which he deserved as he had an excellent ICC World Cup 2023, including a fifer against India. However, Nuwan Thushara got an INR 4.8 Cr bid from MI, which baffled the best of the experts. Despite a slingy action and ability to bowl yorkers, Thushara might not even get a chance to play in the MI's playing XI, and his inexperience on a stage like IPL might become a hindrance to MI’s chances.
