The excitement around the IPL 2024 is approaching a fever pitch, with fans anxiously anticipating outstanding performances from their favorite players. The competition will begin on March 22. The reigning champions Chennai Super Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener at Chennai's M Chidambaram Stadium. The fans are eager to see which batter puts his hand up in the race for the most runs in the IPL 2024 and wins the Orange Cap in the 17th edition of the tournament. The Orange Cap retains huge value in the realm of the Indian Premier League and it remains to be seen which batter will own the prestigious award. He has scored 6617 runs in 217 games in the tournament with two centuries and 50 fifties to his name. He averages 35.39 and has a strike rate of 127.18. His best season with the bat was IPL 2020 when he scored 618 runs for Delhi Capitals with two centuries to his name. Dhawan had a lean outing in IPL 2023 with 373 runs in 11 games as injuries and form issues hampered his game. But Dhawan is not someone who quits easily and expects the Punjab Kings captain to bring his A-game into the IPL 2024 tournament. Much onus will be on him to provide flying starts to the PBKS in the upcoming IPL season. 9. Jos Buttler Jos Buttler. However, his next outing in IPL 2024 was subdued with 392 runs in 14 games. Jos Buttler had been a bit out of form in T20Is in 2023 with 325 runs in just 11 matches and three fifties to his name. However, it is expected that with no responsibility of keeping wickets in RR, Buttler will regain his form. He was in the race for the Orange Cap last year, but Shubman Gill was miles ahead of him. He won the prestigious award in IPL 2015, 2017 and 2019. He is also the leading run-getter in foreign players. Warner has scored 6397 runs in 176 games in IPL with 4 centuries and most fifties in 61 as well. His strike rate is 139.92 and his highest score of 126. Warner led the Delhi Capitals in IPL 2023 and despite his team’s poor performance, he led from the front scoring 516 runs with 6 fifties. His best season however was in IPL 2016, when despite scoring 848 runs, he finished second to Virat Kohli, who made 973 runs. Warner might be 37 years old and has already retired from Test and ODIs. He scored almost 600 in four consecutive seasons- 626, 670, 593, and 659. Overall he has 4163 runs in 118 IPL games with 4 centuries to his name with an average of 46.78 and the best score of 132*. LSG will be playing their home games in Lucknow which has the perfect surface for KL Rahul to make his runs. Expect him to open the innings for LSG along with Quinton de Kock and given his recent form across formats and in the ICC World Cup 2023, Rahul will be a serious contender for the Orange Cap for most runs in IPL 2024. 4. He averaged 48.08 and a strike rate of 163.31, along with the fastest fifty in the IPL record in just 13 balls. This led to Jaiswal making his India debut in West Indies and since then, he has moved from strength to strength. Jaiswal is having a gala time in the ongoing England Test series and his T20I numbers are excellent. He has 502 runs in just 17 matches with one century and 4 fifties with a strike rate of 161.93. The left-handed opener will want to have a similar form with the bat in IPL 2024 for Rajasthan Royals. He already has a brilliant T20I record with 335 runs in 14 games with one century and one fifty. Despite this, Gill would want to stake a huge claim for the Indian T20 World Cup squad with a scintillating performance with the bat and probably scoring the most runs in the IPL 2024 once again. This will be helpful for Gill to make a name for himself for the opening slot in the Indian team and his franchise could use their captain leading from the front as well. 2. He has already worn the Orange Cap once in IPL 2021 with 635 runs in the season for CSK. Even in the previous IPL season in 2023, Gaikwad hammered 590 runs in 16 games with four fifties and best score of 92 with a strike rate of 147.50. Gaikwad had also led the Indian team to the Asian Games gold medal and most recently, scored his maiden T20I ton against Australia, scoring 123*. Gaikwad is earmarked as a future CSK and potentially, India captain. He will be gunning for the Orange Cap in the IPL 2024 after recovering from a finger injury and keep an eye on the young opener. 1. Virat Kohli Virat Kohli holds the record for most runs in a single IPL edition, with 973 in the 2016 edition. He also is the highest-ever run-getter in IPL with 7263 runs with 7 centuries and 50 fifties to his name. Kohli also had an excellent outing in ICC World Cup 2023 with more than 700 runs. He missed the ongoing England Test series due to personal reasons. But he is expected to be back in action for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2024. Virat Kohli would like to prepare for the T20 World Cup 2024 with an Orange Cap performance in the IPL’s 17th edition. Kohli has mastered the art of making runs fast in the T20 format without taking needless risks. This has helped him boss the format and since he’ll be returning from a break, expect him to be hungry for runs and go for Orange Cap.
