The IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) stage is halfway through, and there have been some great matches this season. Though fans have enjoyed the batting and bowling performances of the teams, one of the most important departments, which is often overlooked, is fielding — which plays a huge role in saving runs for the teams, even in the crucial stages of the game.
While there have been some incredible fielding efforts witnessed so far, there have also been some average mishaps and underwhelming attempts. It is time to discuss which team, out of all ten franchises, has had a horrible time on the field — and how this has affected their performances in one of the toughest franchise tournaments in the world of cricket. There are some surprising picks, as some of the teams on this list include squads with exceptional fielders as well.
Here are the top three worst fielding teams in IPL 2025 so far:
3 . Chennai Super Kings - 68.5% (Catch efficiency)

Popular IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are enduring one of their worst seasons this year, having currently lost five straight games and languishing at the bottom of the table. Despite underwhelming batting and bowling performances, it is their fielding that has not lived up to expectations — even with exceptional fielders like Ravindra Jadeja, Rachin Ravindra, and Devon Conway in the squad.
CSK have a catch efficiency of 68.5% so far, which is quite underwhelming given the standard of fielders in their team. This is definitely one of the areas the MS Dhoni-led side must improve if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive and win games consistently.
