IPL 2025: 5 Released CSK players who could trigger a bidding war between RCB and MI at auction

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained only five players ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni. With these retentions, they have shed 65 crore of the 120 crore purse. On the other hand, Royal Challengers Bengaluru have retained only three players in the form of Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal and have INR 83 crore left in their purse. The CSKs’ counterparts Mumbai Indians, who also share a feat of five championships, have utilised INR 75 crore and enter the auction with INR 45 crore. Both RCB and MI will look to bolster their attacks with a balance of spinners, all-rounders, and some power hitters. CSK, who have leveraged all these while with an amalgamation of these traits, have provided fodder for the likes of MI and RCB in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Sameer Rizvi Rizvi (CSK / IPL) Sameer Rizvi, an uncapped player who represents Uttar Pradesh was bought by CSK for 8.4 crore ahead of IPL 2024. The right-handed batter is known to hit big sixes and charge from ball one. He played eight innings and scored 51 runs with a strike rate of 118.60 in the limited game time he got. On the other hand, he was the second highest runs scores in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League 2024. Playing for Kanpur Superstars, he scored 468 runs in 13 innings at an average of 42.54. RCB and MI had struggled with a batter who can accelerate lower down the order, and as a result, Rizvi may fit the bill. 4. Mitchell Santner Santner (Source - BCCI / IPL) Mitchell Santner was retained by CSK ahead of IPL 2024 for 1.90 crore. The all-rounder, however, got to play only three games last season. He managed to pick only two wickets at an average of 32 and a good economy rate of 7.11. With Maheesh Theekshana and Jadeja being other spinning options, he did not make it to the playing XI more often. He is a proper all-rounding option if MI and RCB are considering one to join their camp for the IPL 2025 season. 3. Maheesh Theekshana Theekshana (Source - IPL/BCCI) Maheesh Theekshana was retained by CSK for only 70 lakh ahead of IPL 2024. The Sri Lanka spinner got to play only five games as he was on a rotational basis with Santner. He picked only two wickets with a dismal strike rate of 60. But the right-arm spinner maintained a good economy rate of 7.20. He has been in a constant fight with his injuries and showed promise in his latest outings against West Indies in ODI and T20I series. He picked five wickets in the three T20Is and three wickets in two ODIs. He can be a great asset when it comes to controlling the run-flow and the spinner MI and RCB can target. 2. But the southpaw could not make it to the league as he sustained a thumb injury. He was replaced by Rachin Ravindra, but the IPL fans remember his outing in IPL 2023, scoring 672 runs in 16 innings at an average of 51.69. Conway was back in India for the Test series, and dazzled with 91 and 76 runs in first innings of Bengaluru and Pune Test respectively. The 33-year-old can come handy as a wicketkeeper and a different beast all together in the power play whom MI and RCB would not mind having in their pantheon. 1. Deepak Chahar Deepak Chahar has been part of CSK camp ever since he joined them in 2018. The right-arm pacer, who is known to swing the ball on Indian decks, was retained by them ahead of IPL 2024 for a whopping INR 14 crore. He played eight games and picked five wickets at an average of 40.40 and a strike rate of 28.20 and an economy rate of 8.60. The pacer have the ability to bowl in the powerplay and in death overs, something which MI and RCB lacked in IPL 2024.
