The auction purse ahead of IPL 2025 for each franchise was set at ₹120 crore (US$14 million), which was the highest ever in the history of the IPL. 10 teams arrived at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to select the best players from a pool 577 cricketers, which included 367 Indians and 210 overseas players. The minimum base price of a player at the IPL 2025 mega auction was ₹30 lakh while the maximum base price was ₹2 crore. 182 players were sold at the auction, including 62 overseas players, and a total of ₹639.15 crore was spent in acquiring the players. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) retained five key players ahead of the auction: Ruturaj Gaikwad (18 Cr), Ravindra Jadeja (18 Cr), Matheesha Pathirana (13 Cr), Shivam Dube (12 Cr), and MS Dhoni (4 Cr), costing them a total of 65 crore. Chennai Super Kings spent ₹54.95 crore during the IPL auction to acquire players. They made significant picks, securing players like Ravichandran Ashwin (₹9.75 crore), Devon Conway (₹6.25 crore), and Noor Ahmed (₹10 crore). They brought 25 players which includes seven overseas players.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) retained Virat Kohli (₹21 crore), Rajat Patidar (₹11 crore), and Yash Dayal (₹5 crore) which left them with 83 Crore for the Auction. Royal Challengers Bengaluru spent a total of ₹82.25 Crore at the IPL auction. They brought 22 players which includes 14 Indian players and 8 overseas players at the IPL 2025 auction. Some notable picks were Phil Salt for Rs 11.50 crore, Indian wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma was another high-profile signing at Rs 11 crore, Josh Hazlewood for Rs 12.5 crore, Bhuvneshwar Kumar: 10.75 crore INR.

Conclusion
Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained players for 37 crore and spent 82.25 crore at auction. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings spent 65 crore on retaining players and spent 54.95 crore at auction. Overall Chennai Super Kings spent 119.95 Cr on players this season. At the same time, Royal Challengers Bengaluru spent 119.25 Cr on players this season which brings us to the conclusion that Chennai Super Kings have spent more on players this season.
