Franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) are one of the oldest teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). They have played with several stalwarts but haven't gotten the chance to lay their hands on the trophy yet. DC initially started with the name Delhi Daredevils when GMR Group-owned them. However, in 2018, JSW Sports bought stakes in the company, which led to a change in the name of the team to Delhi Capitals.

The Delhi-based franchise has done wonders at the auction table, buying some of the best players in the tournament. Even in 2020, they reached the finals for the first time but lost against Mumbai Indians (MI). They had players like Virender Sehwag, Glenn McGrath, Gautam Gambhir, and many more in the league.

Ownership and net worth

GMR Group and JSW Sports own DC. Kiran Gandhi, a second-generation entrepreneur, owns Delhi Capitals. The 50-year-old entrepreneur has been a board member of the GMR Group since 1999 and is currently the corporate chairman of GMR Group. He is the son of Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao, the founder of GMR Group, a renowned businessman.

Apart from Gandhi, Parth Jindal is also the chairperson and owner of DC. He is a big Indian business tycoon and the director of JSW Sports. GMR Group bought Delhi Daredevils for $84 million in 2008, and JSW Sports bought 50% stakes in the team in 2018 and changed the name to Delhi Capitals. The current net worth of DC is $64.1 million (₹480.4 crore).

Expansion into global cricket

Apart from the IPL, DC have only one team in the Women's Premier League (WPL), organised by the BCCI. They haven't expanded into global cricket yet.

Revenue sources of DC

Sponsorship deals

The franchise's financial success comes from multiple revenue streams, including sponsorship deals, media rights, merchandise sales, ticket sales, and prize money. DC's main title partner is Hero Fincorp. Apart from that, their sponsors are DP World and All Seasons Packaged Drinking Water, GMR, ACKO, Jio, Puma, JSW Paints, Encalm, Dream11, Livfast, Bisleri, Ebix, BigAnt Studios, Hurricane Energy Drink, FC Shop, MeduLace, Fever Happening Hai and JioHotstar.

IPL media rights revenue

One of DC's primary revenue sources comes from the IPL’s media rights deal. The broadcasting rights for IPL 2023-27 were sold for INR 47,333 crore (USD 6.2 billion), split between TV and digital platforms. Since IPL teams receive a substantial portion of this revenue, DC benefits greatly from this revenue-sharing model.

Merchandise and ticket sales

When it comes to merchandise and ticket sales, DC earn a significant amount of money for jerseys, caps, and ticket sales. The matches at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, are also a source of income for the Capitals.

Prize money

Delhi Capitals haven't won a single trophy yet. So, they haven't received any prize money.
