IPL 2025: Rating teams based on their batting so far

The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League has taken off with a bang. It is already living up to the hype with some electrifying clashes already unfolding. There have been a whole lot of high-scoring games which have gone by this season. With IPL 2025 approaching its halfway mark, almost all sides have seemed to have established their batting order to a reasonable extent. Below, we rate all the franchises' batting performances as a whole up until now. Rating teams based on their batting so far (as of April 15, 2025) Chennai Super Kings (4/10) Chennai Super Kings have not at all lived up to the hype until this point. Two southpaws, Rachin Ravindra and Shivam Dube, stand as the franchise's top-scorers so far. However, even they have not clicked in the way CSK would have liked. Rachin and Dube have not been able to fully maximise their respective roles. Apart from one 63-run knock, there has not been much to show for skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, as well. Vijay Shankar has not risen to the occasion on majority of the occasions. Batting second has been a constant problem for the team too. Sunrisers Hyderabad (4.5/10) There is no doubt in Sunrisers Hyderabad having arguably the most lethal batting lineups. However, there have been instances where they have not been able to click together as a unit. The opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma have had two excellent partnerships. Other than that, they have tried to be too aggressive irrespective of the situation in front. Ishan Kishan has had an extremely lean patch barring his SRH debut in which he racked up an excellent ton. Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy are yet to fully showcase their power-hitting prowess. Rajasthan Royals (5.5/10) Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson have not been able to click together. Apart from a fighting 52-run knock in a losing cause, Shimron Hetmyer has also not been able to make the most of the opportunities provided. Riyan Parag has got off to starts, but has not been able to capitalise. In the six innings so far, Nitish Rana has been only able to register a double-digit score in one. Other than a blazing 70-run knock in Rajasthan Royals' tournament opener, Dhruv Jurel has not had the best of success as far as closing innings is concerned. Mumbai Indians (6/10) Other than the game against LSG where Mumbai Indians came close to overhauling the target, the side has not looked at its best when it comes to batting in the second innings. Rohit Sharma and Will Jacks have only accounted for 56 and 55 runs in five innings, respectively. Ryan Rickelton has registered three sub-twenty scores this season. Although Tilak Varma bounced back with a couple of half-centuries at a quick rate, him having to retire out against LSG did not really sit well with the fans and must have had a huge impact on his confidence. Kolkata Knight Riders (6.5/10) Other than the PBKS debacle in Mullanpur, KKR batters have chipped in with vital contributions. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane has led from the front with 221 runs under his belt in seven innings. Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi is second on the KKR roster, and promises a lot more in the remainder of the season. The three knocks of Sunil Narine where he has scored at least 30 have all had a counter-attacking punch linked to them, which is why he has been slotted at the top of the order. Andre Russell is yet to fully explode, while Rinku Singh has struck at a healthy 150.64. Lucknow Super Giants (7.5/10) The swashbuckling Nicholas Pooran has been in red-hot form so far. In seven innings, he has struck more sixes than fours (31 vs 28) while striking at a whopping 208.77. Mitchell Marsh has been quite impressive up top. Aiden Markram has looked quite decent too. Aside from skipper Rishabh Pant's recent 63-run knock against CSK, his form has been a point of concern for the franchise. However, knowing Pant's character, one can never write him off. The same could be said about David Miller. A positive for LSG would be Abdul Samad scoring at above 200. Gujarat Titans (8/10) Sai Sudharsan has been quite brilliant at the top of the order. Six innings of his have entailed four match-defining half-centuries. Shubman Gill has also been crisp alongside Sudharsan. Sherfane Rutherford, coming in as an Impact Player in several games, has been in top-notch hitting form. Jos Buttler had a cracking start to the season. The wicketkeeper-batter will aim on replicating similar form going forward. Rahul Tewatia has not got enough opportunities to bat so far. If Tewatia is able to find his mojo, it would really be nothing like it for Gujarat Titans. Punjab Kings (8/10) Apart from their most-recent game against KKR where Punjab Kings were bundled out for 111 in a winning cause, there have been three innings where they have scored well above the 200-run mark. Shreyas Iyer has been well amongst the runs while Priyansh Arya has shown major glimpses of promises in his debut IPL season. Prabhsimran Singh and Shashank Singh have also contributed vitally whereas Nehal Wadhera has had an immense impact in the middle-order. The lower middle-order consist of Marcus Stoinis and Marco Jansen; both of whom are capable of striking the ball a long way if required. Delhi Capitals (8.5/10) Unlike previous season where it seemed KL Rahul curbed his attacking instincts at the crease, IPL 2025 has neen anything but that. Representing Delhi Capitals in his third straight season, Abishek Porel has been quite impressive. Although he has not delivered a big knock so far, he has looked quite promising at the crease. Tristan Stubbs has also come good as and when needed. Karun Nair's first game for DC this season ended up in stunning fashion. His 89 (40) is sure to have booked his place at No. 3 for a few games now. Vipraj Nigam and Ashutosh Sharma have also displayed stunning moments of individual brilliance in DC's one-wicket win in their first game of the season. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (9/10) The three instances Virat Kohli has got going, he has racked up noteworthy half-centuries. Phil Salt has had only innings of notable impact, but has struck at a robust 185.71. Freshly-instated RCB skipper, Rajat Patidar, has been in quite decent touch. Jitesh Sharma's blitzkrieg against Mumbai Indians was more than enough to prove the immense aggressive potential. Devdutt Padikkal has played a couple of commendable innings too. Tim David looks to be in great form lower down the order.
