IPL: 5 instances when cricketers were fined due to on-field spat
There have been instances in the IPL arena where players have been involved in a heated exchange and have eventually been fined due to the altercation.
3. Ambati Rayudu-Harshal Patel (RCB vs MI, 2012)
Royal Challengers Bangalore locked horns with Mumbai Indians in the 62nd match of IPL 2012 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Bangalore batted first and piled on 171 runs in 20 overs thanks to a majestic knock from Mayank Agarwal (64 runs off 30 deliveries).
Mumbai were in a spot of bother during the chase, having lost five wickets for just 51 runs. Just when things looked grim for Harbhajan Singh & Co., Ambati Rayudu and Kieron Pollard joined hands and knocked the wind out of the RCB bowlers with an unbeaten 122-run stand off 65 balls to take MI across the line.
While celebrating a thrilling win, Rayudu passed some offensive comments on Harshal Patel, which infuriated the right-arm pacer and he charged towards Rayudu before Virat Kohli stopped him. Ambati was docked 100 per cent of his match fee for using obscene and abusive language while Harshal was reprimanded and fined 25 per cent of his match earnings.
