2. Joint-best strike rate by a bowler in an innings
Andre Russell is one of the most destructive batters in world cricket at the moment. He has displayed his power-hitting might time and time again and dismantled top-drawer bowling attacks for fun. Also, the ace all-rounder is a useful contributor with the ball and has the ability to bowl in any phase of the game. The 34-year-old has been remarkable in the IPL and has smashed 2035 runs in 98 games at a staggering strike rate of 177.88 apart from bagging 89 wickets at an economy of 9.14.
Russell showed his bowling prowess in the 35th match of IPL 2022 against the Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans. KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer handed the ball to the West Indies all-rounder for the final over of Gujarat’s innings. The Jamaica-born had not bowled a single ball in the match till then it was not an easy task to come in and bowl a great 20th over where the opposition’s batters will try to hit every ball out of the park.
However, Russell put on an exhibition of some fantastic death-bowling and bagged four scalps while giving away just five runs. The destructive all-rounder took wickets at a stellar strike rate of 1.5 and hence, registered a joint-best strike rate by a bowler in an innings in the IPL. Earlier, Suresh Raina ended with insane bowling figures of 0.3-0-0-2 when Chennai Super Kings clashed with Rajasthan Royals in the 52nd match IPL 2011.
