4. Shreyas Gopal’s 4/16 against Royal Challengers Bangalore, 2018
Rajasthan Royals (RR) made a comeback in IPL in 2018 after the end of their two-year suspension that happened due to betting activities. Under Ajinkya Rahane’s leadership, RR concluded their journey in the playoffs. In the league round, when they were required to beat Royal Challengers Banglore (RCB) in Jaipur, the leg-break bowler Shreyas Gopal stood tall on the day.
Batting first in the do-or-die contest at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, RR posted 164 runs on the board, with Rahul Tripathi’s unbeaten 80 off 58. Defending the total, Rajasthan got the crucial wicket of Virat Kohli in the third over of the game but the partnership between Parthiv Patel and Ab de Villiers was making the task easy for Challengers.
Shreyas held his nerves in the crunch situation and dismissed Patel and Moeen Ali in the ninth over.
In his next over, the leggie attacked RCB again and this time, he sent Mandeep Singh back to the pavilion. However, De Villers’ presence on the crease was posing a threat to RR but Shreyas displayed his determination and got the better of the Protea, who scored 53 off 35. In the end, Royals folded Challengers on 134 and Gopal became the Player of the Match for his 4/16 figures.
