1. Colin Cowdrey
Colin Cowdrey was a run-machine in England's domestic circuit. He featured in 692 first-class matches and amassed an insane tally of 42719 runs at an average of 42.89. The Tamil Nadu-born was sensational in the international arena too and scored 7624 runs in 114 Tests at an average of 44.06.
When England locked horns with Australia in the third Test of The Ashes in 1968 in Birmingham, Cowdrey led the way with the bat and smashed 104 runs off 247 balls in the first innings. With the ton, he became the first-ever cricketer to smash a century in his 100th game in the longest format.
Courtesy of Cowdrey’s sensational showings, the Three Lions posted 409 runs on the board. Australia in response were bowled out for 222 but managed to draw the Test. Colin last played for England in February 1975.
