7. Graeme Smith
Graeme Smith was a consistent performer for South Africa across formats. The former South African batter featured in 117 Tests and scored 9265 runs at an average of 48.25. In the 50-over format, he scored 6989 runs in 197 games at an average of 37.98.
South Africa faced England in the first game of the three-match Test series in July 2012 at The Oval. After electing to bat, the Three Lions posted 385 runs in the first innings, with Alastair Cook scoring a century.
Hasim Amla was at his vintage self and scored a majestic triple century (311*). Smith, who was representing South Africa in Test cricket for the 100th time, also put on a show with the bat and scored 131 runs off 273 deliveries. Jacques Kallis too scored a glorious ton. Courtesy of the Proteas trio’s spectacular performances, South Africa posted a huge total of 637 runs on the board.
Eventually, Smith & co. thrashed England by an innings and 12 runs.
