List of shortlisted cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir for IPL auction 2024

Next week on Tuesday, December 19, the IPL 2024 auction will take place for the first time in Dubai. A total of 333 players will be auctioned off to fill 77 spots in the ten franchises. There are 214 Indians among the 333 players listed for the mini-auction, 119 from other countries, and two from partner countries. Furthermore, 116 of the total players up for grabs are capped cricketers, while 215 are uncapped. Besides, 30 of the 77 available slots are earmarked for foreign players. Each franchise has a budget of Rs 100 crore, up from Rs 95 crore last year. The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders will have the most slots to fill (12), while it will be the IPL 2022 winner, Gujarat Titans, who will enter the auction with the biggest purse (38.15 crore). Interestingly, it will be for the first time that nine players from the state of Jammu & Kashmir have been shortlisted in the final list of the IPL 2024 auction, and in this piece, let's have a look at them. Here is the list of cricketers from Jammu & Kashmir shortlisted for IPL Auction 2024: 9. Manit Singh Jasrotia sfsa (Photo Source: Twitter) The 20-year-old Manit Singh Jasrotia is a right-arm pacer. He hails from Chandwan village in Jammu’s Kathua district, boasting speeds touching 145 kph. He was a highlight in 2022 with impressive spells in the under-25 State A Trophy. 8. Basit Bashir Basit Bashir. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Tall left-arm pacer Basit Bashir has tasted what it is to be part of an IPL franchise, as he was a net bowler for Mumbai Indians and previously had done the same for Punjab Kings. He hails from Kashmir’s frontier Kupwara district and is a product of Chennai’s MRF Pace Academy Foundation. Bashir has played for J&K’s under-16 and under-19 teams. Fascinatingly enough, the lanky pacer was first noticed by Irfan Pathan. 7. Waseem Bashir Waseem Bashir. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) The 23-year-old Waseem Bashir has been compared to Umran Malik, a pacer who has made J&K proud as he played in both ODIs and T20Is for India. Waseem can hit the high 150kph mark pretty consistently and was called for IPL trials in 2021 by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Bashir has been mentored by Irfan Pathan during his stint at Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association. 6. Mujtaba Yousuf Mujtaba Yousuf. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Mujtaba Yousuf has been a net bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), respectively. Notably, the youngster is just 21 years old. The left-arm pacer hails from Kashmir’s Anantnag district and made his T20 debut for J&K in the 2018 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Thereafter, Yousuf made his one-day debut in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy. 5. Rasikh Salam Dar Rasikh Salam dar. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Rasikh Salam Dar has been a handful of J&K players who have played in the Indian Premier League. He did so for Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders. In 2019, he became the third J&K cricketer to be picked in the IPL. MI bought him at his base price of Rs 20 lakh. In 2022, Dar was sold to KKR at the same price. 4. Vivrant Sharma Vivrant Sharma. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Vivrant Sharma, 24, is considered one of the best batters to have come out of the valley. He is also a handy off-spinner, putting him in an all-rounder category. During the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Sharma top-scored for J&K with 395 runs with an impressive average of 56.42. He was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2023 for INR 2.6 crores and got to play 3 matches as well, where he scored 79 runs. 3. Nasir Lone Nasir Lone. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Nasir Lone is another talented all-rounder from Bandipora in north Kashmir. He was part of the IPL 2021 and 2022 auctions. A medical graduate, 26-year-old Lone has represented the state in the 2021 Vijay Hazare trophy. He has also been dubbed “Nasir Kohli” for his fine and aggressive batting technique. 2. Abid Mushtaq Abid Mushtaq. (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Abid Mushtaq is a left-arm spinner and lower-order hitter. He hails from J&K’s Bhaderwah area in the Doda district. He has played 20 FC matches, 29 List-A games, and 29 T20s for J&K, picking a total of 121 wickets. In 2023, he was also invited to bowl to the touring Australian team in the nets ahead of their Test series against India in January. 1. Shubham Singh Pundir Shubham Pundir (Photo Source: X(Twitter) Though born in Dehradun, Shubham Singh Pundir has been playing cricket for J&K. Another left-handed batter and a legspinner, Pundir made his first-class debut for J&K in 2015 in the Ranji Trophy, and his one-day debut for the state in 2018 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has played 68 T20s, scoring 695 runs with 4 fifties and a strike rate of 111.73.
