The 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction was the best chance for all the 10 franchises to rebuild their team before the tournament and they grabbed this opportunity with both hands. Following the 2023 World Cup, the business event drew a lot of eyes as 333 players went under the hammer.

Among 333 names in the auction, a few players received big bucks due to their diligence and perseverance. In the upcoming tournament, their responsibility will be to justify their price tags while serving their respective teams. After the conclusion of the blockbuster auction, let’s have a glance at five names who hit the headlines for becoming the most expensive players of the business extravaganza.

After facing a snub from Gujarat Titans (GT) in November, the West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph went under the hammer to get a new team in the IPL auction. His maximum reserved amount was INR 2 crore but the bidding battle among four franchises Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) got him INR 11.50 crore in the end.

Challengers emerged victorious in this battle as they fetched the Caribbean bowler for the hefty amount. Joseph has exuded confidence with the ball recently in the ongoing home series against England. In the five-match T20 International (T20I) series, he has clinched six wickets in three games.

In the RCB squad, he will fill Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood’s shoes to bolster the team’s fast-bowling unit. As an experienced international player, he will have to do wonders with the ball along with the India speedster Mohammed Siraj.
