South Africa played an aggressive brand of cricket in the league stage and qualified for the semi-final with ease. In their scintillating show, Quinton de Kock played an instrumental role with his bat. With 591 runs in nine games at a strike rate of 109.24, he is the second-highest run-getter in the competition.

The Protea team started its campaign with a 102-run win against Sri Lanka at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and de Kock contributed 100 runs (84 deliveries) from his bat. After vanquishing the 1996 champions, South Africa hammered Australia by 134 runs in Lucknow and he received the Player of the Match for his 109-run innings (106 balls).

The Protea hit 174 (140) against Bangladesh and became the wicketkeeper batter with the highest individual score in the World Cup, breaking Adam Gilchrist’s 149-run record against the West Indies that came in the World Cup 2007. The 30-year-old will retire from One-Day Internationals (ODIs) after this tournament and he will look to guide his team to the maiden trophy win.
