2. Jonny Bairstow
England’s dismal performance has shocked cricket supporters as no fan had imagined that the defending champions would flounder in such a way. On India’s batting surfaces, their experienced opener Jonny Bairstow was expected to do wonders with his bat but his numbers are also disappointing.
Appearing in six games, he has failed to produce any solid knock from his bat. The right-handed batter has amassed only 141 runs in six outings at a sub-par average of 23.50. In the massive contest against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium, Bairstow’s responsibility was to play attacking cricket while following 400 runs.
The English team faced a 229-run loss at the hands of the Proteas and Bairstow again failed to do anything special scoring only 10 runs. The 34-year-old hit a couple of boundaries but eventually, he lost a battle to Lungi Ngidi, who got him caught at the deep square leg at the hands of Rassie van der Dussen.
