4. Shakib Al Hasan
Bangladesh were expected to be decent in this World Cup due to their ample experience on sub-continent pitches. In the last few years, their performance graph has soared in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) while playing in these conditions. Before the competition, the Bangla team management appointed experienced Shakib Al Hasan their skipper.
Despite having a lot of experience in these conditions, the Bangla team is struggling to play quality cricket under the veteran in this tournament. With one win in seven games, Bangladesh are in the ninth position on the points table. Currently, they are the only side who are completely out of the knockouts race.
In Bangladesh’s terrible performance, their captain’s failure has played a huge part. Against South Africa at the Wankhede Stadium, Shakib took Aiden Markram’s wicket but gave away 69 runs in his nine-over spell. The skipper continued his struggled in the game with his bat as well. Following the early departure of Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shakib’s duty was to stand at the crease and take the game close but the veteran also lost his wicket to Lizaad Williams after scoring one run.
