Temba Bavuma has led South Africa very well as they have made it into the semi-finals of the ongoing World Cup, losing only games in the league stages, to Netherlands and India. However, it hasn’t been a happy outing for Bavuma as a batter. He has managed only 145 runs in seven matches with a best of 35 at a strike rate of 75.12.

However, much of that can be attributed to Bavuma suffering an illness and a hamstring injury in the Cricket World Cup 2023. He missed two matches in the league stage and opted against going for scans before the semi-final against Australia in Kolkata.

He trained with full intent on Monday, with a tightly strapped right thigh. He did fitness drills, took a couple of laps around the outfield, and also simulated running between the wickets, gradually increasing his pace. He looked in discomfort but powered through. The team management is tightlipped about his availability, but in case he doesn’t make it, in time, Aiden Markram will lead the team.
