9. Most fours in a World Cup match
South Africa and Sri Lanka locked horns in the fourth match of the ODI World Cup 2023, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, and the former registered a convincing 102-run win. In this game, South Africa scored 400+ score for the eighth time, tasking Sri Lanka to chase a huge total of 429 in 50 overs. Replying to the humongous total, Sri Lanka got folded on 326 in 44.5 overs.
In the entire game, 74 fours were scored which is the most in a World Cup contest. Earlier the most fours were scored in the Australia versus South Africa game (72 fours), at Basseterre, in the 2007 World Cup. South Africa scored 45 fours during their batting innings, of which 39 came from the bats of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram, who scored centuries in the match.
From Sri Lanka’s side, Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka put up some fight with 76 (42) and 79 (65), respectively. Asalanka hit eight fours during his spectacular knock and Mendis also hit four fours. Captain Dasun Shanaka scored 68 off 62 and he also amassed six fours in his innings.
