3. Rohit Sharma shatters Sachin Tendulkar's record of six tons
Rohit Sharma showcased his batting mettle against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and guided India to a comfortable eight-wicket triumph. The batting veteran produced a 131-run knock from his bat and became the Player of the Match. This was Rohit’s seventh century in the World Cup which is the most by any batter in the ODI event played every four years.
Rohit outdid his compatriot Sachin Tendulkar and became the owner of this marvellous batting feat. Tendulkar amassed six tons in 44 ODI innings in his 19-year ODI World Cup career while the current India captain accomplished the notable record in just 19 innings.
Rohit’s maiden World Cup century came against Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup quarter-final at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). In the 2019 World Cup, the star India player became the leading run-getter with 648 runs in nine matches. He also smashed five centuries in the competition which is the most by any batter in a World Cup installment.
