ODI World Cup History: Openers with most duck dismissals
Some exceptional batters have broken into record books with this infamous feat.
3. William Porterfield (IRE)- 3 Ducks
Former Ireland captain William Porterfield showed up in three editions of the World Cup from 2007 to 2015 and during this period, he also piled up three ducks. In his debut World Cup game in 2007 against Zimbabwe in Kingston, he walked back to the pavilion on zero after facing six balls. The contest resided in the minds of cricket enthusiasts as it ended in a stalemate after a lot of struggle between both sides.
The Irish opener again had a disappointing outing against the hosts West Indies in Kingston. The left-handed batter gave his wicket to Daren Powell on a zero. In the 2011 World Cup, Porterfield captained Ireland, and under his leadership, the Irish team chased down a target of 328 against England in Bengaluru.
The match is remembered for Kevin O’Brien’s heroic knock of 113 off 63. In the same game, skipper Porterfield had fallen under pressure, giving away his wicket to James Anderson on the first delivery of the innings.
