PSL Trophy Designs 2016-2024: Visual history of trophies

As the PSL 2024 or PSL 9 is about to kick off, the focus was on the newly designed Pakistan Super League Trophy that was unveiled in Lahore. The trophy was unveiled in the presence of Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi, franchise owners, HBL representatives, and star cricketers. Unlike other T20 leagues, which have a permanent trophy design, the Pakistan Super League is known to have a new design in almost every single edition of the tournament. The PSL trophy is more than simply an accolade; it is, in many respects, the most important T20 trophy a cricket team can win in Pakistan, given how popular the PSL has become over the last eight years. We that in mind, today we take a look at all the evolution of PSL trophy designs over the years from 2016-2024. Here is the history of Pakistan Super League Trophy designs over the years: 1. PSL 2016 PSL 2016 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The PSL 1 trophy was a rather simple one. The trophy was designed by Swarovski and named the Shooting Star trophy. It had three pillars that supported a star at the top and the pillars were posted on a strong base. The trophy symbolized the launch of PSL and encapsulated the hope and positive spirit of the tournament. The PSL 1 trophy was unveiled in the presence of captains and officials of all five franchises. This was a dream come true for the Pakistan Cricket Board, who previously tried to launch the league in 2014 and 2015, but the quality of the bids meant the PCB decided to put it on hold. Islamabad United won the inaugural PSL trophy under the captaincy of Misbah Ul Haq. 2. PSL 2017 PSL 2017 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The PSL 2017 or PSL 2 trophy was named the 'Spirit Trophy'. It was encrusted with 50,000 crystals and was designed by Swarovski. The trophy encapsulated Pakistan’s hope and aspiration with the PSL’s vision of cricket. Sitting on the pinnacle was the Shooting Star, a multi-faceted crystal sculpture made with precision-cut technology. It took four months from approval to final product including renderings and mock-ups to the final product. The 'Spirit Trophy' acknowledged a nation's patriotism. It was inspired by the brilliance of the universe; the trophy's central core resembled a galaxy of stars, with a shooting star above and a golden crescent behind it. 3. PSL 2018 PSL 2018 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The Pakistan Super League 2018 or PSL 3 was unveiled in Dubai at the Dubai Cricket Stadium. The captains of the six franchises, Darren Sammy, Shoaib Malik, Imad Wasim, Brendon McCullum, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Sarfraz Ahmed were present at the unveiling ceremony. The trophy was a wonderful specimen, dripping with gold designed by Swarovski. The Trophy was picked up from the Swarovski office in an Uber Chopper that took off from the Atlantis Helipad, the Chopper landed at the Me'aisem City Centre. At the Me'aisem City Centre, the Trophy was received by Peshawar Zalmi captain Darren Sammy, the defending champions. The gold-plated trophy had a glittering top with a crescent moon and a star embossed in it. This is the national symbol seen on the Pakistan flag and the emblem of the Pakistan Cricket Board. 4. PSL 2019 PSL 2019 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The Pakistan Super League 2019 trophy was unveiled in Dubai and it was brought to the Dubai International Cricket Stadium via chopper. The trophy was unveiled in presence of the captains of all the franchises. The trophy was named ‘Pakistan Trophy’ as it celebrated the different cultures of Pakistan and the harmony with which they stand together to call the country home. The trophy was designed by Swarovski and more than 50,000 crystals were used in the design. The central core covered in 16 faceted Xirius crystals, one by one raises as a dazzling green beam and shows off the majestic shining star at the pinnacle. The six pillars surrounding the star were studded with fine rocks, open to make a crescent, to represent the six participating teams. 5. PSL 2020-2022 PSL 2020 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) Due to Covid limits and other obstacles, the PCB utilised the same trophy for three PSL seasons - 2020, 2021, and 2023. Jahangir Khan, the squash icon, unveiled the trophy at the National Stadium in Karachi. The event also included PSL franchise captains and owners. Ottewill Silversmiths, headquartered in the UK, developed this trophy. It features a crescent and star to signify Pakistan, as well as multicoloured enamel strips to depict the country's lively culture. The trophy was 65 centimetres long and weighed eight kilograms. This trophy was supposed to be a permanent trophy for the Pakistan Super League, with subsequent winning teams’ names engraved on the trophy. 6. PSL 2023 PSL 2023 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The PSL 2023 or PSL 8 trophy was unveiled at the historic Shalimar Gardens. The trophy was made of sterling silver and coated with precious stones and gems. It stood tall at 18 inches and weighed almost eight kilograms. The 24-karat Supernova Trophy, as it was called was made by Lahore-based Mahfooz Jewellers. The trophy was created in Pakistan and represents the country's exceptional craftsmanship as well as the Pakistan Cricket Board's commitment to supporting local businesses. The trophy's three pillars, studded with 9,907 sparkling zircon stones, represent the national cricket team's motto: Unity, Passion, and Strength, while the main pillar at the back is further embellished with crystals, symbolizing the team's dedication and hard work. 7. PSL 2024 PSL 2024 Trophy. (Photo Source: Twitter) The PSL 2024 or PSL 9 trophy was unveiled on February 13 at the Polo Ground of the Race Course Park in Lahore. Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi, franchise owners, HBL representatives, and star cricketers were all present at the event. The trophy has been dubbed as the Orion Trophy, named after the constellation of Orion. The trophy is made of pure silver and finished in white gold, emanating prestige. Each element is coated in white gold, adding flair and symbolising the Pakistan Super League's greatness.
