Attentiveness, fitness, agility, and speed are the qualities that help them do this job efficiently. With the advent of the Decision Review System (DRS), captains heavily bank on their wicketkeepers to make decisions regarding taking it or not. In this beautiful sport, there have been several wicketkeepers who are known for serving their teams extraordinarily in international cricket. The Bangladesh veteran kicked off his international career in May 2005 against England in a test match at Lord’s and since then, has appeared in 458 games across all formats. As a batter, he is the second-leading run-getter for his national team, with 14833 runs in 506 innings. Talking about his wicketkeeping record, the 36-year-old is the most successful stumper for the Bangla side, with 458 dismissals (357 catches and 101 stumpings). In all three formats, he has left his predecessor and former Bangladesh wicketkeeper batter Khaled Mashud behind to register himself as the greatest wicketkeeper of the team. In T20 Internationals (T20Is), he is the only wicketkeeper after England’s Jos Buttler to show up in more than 100 games. The 36-year-old is in the sixth spot on the list of wicketkeepers who have performed the most dismissals in the shortest format with 62 hunts in 82 innings of 102 games. 9. Avid cricket fans who witnessed his stint with Zimbabwe in international cricket often recall his batting and wicketkeeping heroics. In One-Day internationals (ODIs) and Tests, he is the batter with the most runs for Zimbabwe. Apart from batting, he was also famous for his brilliant wicketkeeping skills. Serving the side as a stumper, he accumulated 316 victims in 281 innings from 276 international matches. With these numbers, he is also the greatest wicketkeeper for Zimbabwe. In October 1995, he caught five South Africa players behind the wickets in an ODI game in Harare and became the Zimbabwe stumper to perform the most dismissals in a one-day innings as well. 8. The Rawalpindi-born player appeared in 288 international games across all forms of the sport and caused casualties to the opposition 434 times while serving his side behind the stumps. Statistically, Moin is the second-most successful wicketkeeper following Kamran Akmal. In the 50-over format, he is the only Pakistan wicketkeeper along with Rashid Latif to perform more than 200 dismissals. With 287 hunts in 219 ODIs, Moin has the record of getting rid of most batters as a stumper in Pakistan’s jersey. 7. England– Jos Buttler Jos Buttler. His keeping records in white-ball cricket reveal that he will be counted among the ranks of MS Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist, Mark Boucher, and Brendon McCullum. In the ODI format, he is the seventh-most successful wicketkeeper with 258 dismissals in just 181 contests. Talking about his overall numbers, the England veteran has hunted 460 batters (411 catches and 49 stumpings) with his keeping gloves in 352 international contests. In the 2022 World Cup match against New Zealand in Brisbane, he became the second England stalwart and the first international wicketkeeper batter to feature in 100 T20Is. 6. New Zealand- Brendon McCullum Brendon McCullum (Photo Source: Twitter) England’s current Test coach and former New Zealand player Brendon McCullum was known for his exceptional wicketkeeping skills during his playing days. In his entire international career, he showed up in 432 games across all formats and ended up as the best stumper for the Kiwi side, with 453 dismissals in 320 innings. McCullum served New Zealand in ODIs from 2002 to 2016. During those 14 years, he stood behind the stumps in 260 games and got the better of 242 batters. The former Kiwi stalwart is also New Zealand’s most successful stumper in World Cups, removing 32 batters from the crease in 25 innings of 34 matches. 5. West Indies- Jeffrey Dujon Jeffery Dujon (Photo Source: Twitter) Jeffrey Dujon gave his services to West Indies cricket for 10 years from 1981 to 1991. After 33 years of his retirement from international cricket, he is still the most successful wicketkeeper for the Windies side in ODIs, getting rid of 204 batters in 169 ODIs played between 1981 to 1991. In Tests, his record is spectacular as he has performed 270 dismissals in 150 innings of 81 matches. Combining his numbers in both formats, he has accumulated 474 dismissals in 316 innings of 250 matches. These figures put him on the top of the chart of wicketkeepers with the most dismissals. 4. Sri Lanka- Kumara Sangakkara Former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper batter Kumar Sangakkara scripted history with his bat during his vast international career. In ODIs and Tests, he is the leading run-getter for his national side. Besides batting, he was also known for his wicketkeeping excellence. As a wicketkeeper, he used to frighten batters with his disciplined keeping. The Sri Lanka legend is the best wicketkeeper for the island nation in the ODI format, with 482 dismissals (383 catches and 99 stumpings) in 353 innings of 404 matches. Similarly in the World Cups, he is the wicketkeeper with the highest dismissals, trapping 54 batters in 37 matches. 3. India- MS Dhoni MS Dhoni. As a leader, he gave three International Cricket Council (ICC) trophies to India in white-ball cricket while with the bat, he piled up more than 17000 runs across all formats and ended up as one of the most successful batters for the team. The legendary player is also the most successful wicketkeeper for India, with 829 dismissals across all formats. He achieved this feat in 608 innings of 538 matches. In several instances, it was witnessed Dhoni helped India bag games through excellent decision-making while standing behind the stumps. His accuracy level was unprecedented when it came to DRS as well. 2. South Africa- Mark Boucher Former South Africa stalwart Mark Boucher was known for his aggressive batting style. Riding on his superb talent, the Protea side won a lot of games from 1997 to 2012. Cricket fans often recount his stint as a wicketkeeper batter for the Protea side as after playing international cricket for 15 years, he emerged as the most successful stumper. The East London-born player performed 998 dismissals across all three formats and recorded the feat on his name. In Tests, his record is incredible as he has dismissed 555 batters in 281 innings of 147 matches. These numbers also made him the best keeper in cricket’s longest form. 1. Adam Gilchrist The Australian cricket team will consider itself fortunate as someone like Adam Gilchrist served their team for 12 years from 1996-2008 magnificently and broke into record books with his numerous achievements. In ODI cricket, he is the second-leading run-getter for the Aussies, notching up 9595 runs in 286 matches. Apart from batting, he was also extraordinary with his keeping gloves. The star cricketer was the second most successful stumper in the format, with 472 dismissals in 281 innings. Discussing his record in all formats, he holds the second position on the chart of the best keepers, with 905 hunts in 485 innings of 396 games.
