In the 2019 World Cup, Rohit looked in a great rhythm with his bat. During the competition, he delivered a lot of match-winning knocks to Team India. Appearing in nine matches in the competition, he notched up 648 runs with five tons and a fifty. With these numbers, he ended up as the leading run-getter in the tournament.

After Shikhar Dhawan got ruled out of the tournament, Rishabh Pant was drafted into India’s 15-member squad to replace the southpaw. In the match against England in Edgbaston, Pant broke into India’s playing XI. Playing the crucial game against the hosts, the wicketkeeper batter batted at number four and scored 32 off 29 while chasing a mammoth total of 338.

After the match, Rohit attended a press conference and a journalist asked him, “With 146 for two, were you surprised to see Rishabh Pant emerging out of the pavilion because that poor fellow had not even played one match and Hardik (Pandya) was obviously the man in form?”

Answering the reporter, Rohit said, “Not really because you all guys wanted Rishabh Pant to play right? You all guys right from India, you all questioned asking, ‘Where is Rishabh Pant?’ There he is at number four.” Rohit’s response to the journalist won his colleague Hardik Pandya’s heart as the all-rounder dropped in the comment section, “Roo at his best.”
