Franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad maintained their core group as they retained their five players in the form of Heinrich Klaasen (23 crore), Pat Cummins (18 crore), Abhishek Sharma (14 crore), Travis Head (14 crore) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (Uncapped/6 crore). They were left with one Right to Match (RTM) card ahead of the IPL 2025 auctions and entered the auction table with 45 crores remaining in their purse.
The Hyderabad-based franchise, further bolstered their squad as they bought the likes of Ishan Kishan (11.25 crore), Mohammed Shami (10 crore) and Harshal Patel (8 crore) as their biggest takeaway from the auction that went on for two days. After letting Washington Sundar go, they were on the lookout for spinning options and they signed Adam Zampa (2.4 crore) and Rahul Chahar (3.2 crore), respectively.
SRH Squad Overview
Sunrisers Hyderabad was the team known to have a ferocious set of batting lineup which runs down till Washington Sundar. They had set the record of the highest team score ever in the Indian Premier League (IPL) by scoring 287 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2024. It would be interesting to see how they make use of the bowling lineup in the upcoming edition.
RR Squad SWOT Analysis
Strengths: Sunrisers Hyderabad have a set opening pair in the form of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma which has done wonders for them. The addition of Mohammed Shami has brought experience to their side with Pat Cummins leading the attack. They can use the impact player rule well with someone like Brydon Carse or Eshan Malinga who have been impressive in recent times.
Weaknesses: They had only Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram who could hold a bit and score in the middle when the top order collapsed. With them being released, they have to forge a role for potentially Ishan Kishan at number three to don the role in a crisis situation, therefore curbing him from playing his natural game.
Opportunities: They have a good bench strength in the form of uncapped Indian players such as Simarjeet Singh, Abhinav Manohar, and Atharva Taide. They can be utilised as the impact players as well as the players who can be given full-throttle access when the team needs to propel the gained momentum. Their spin wizards in the form of Adam Zampa and Rahul Chahar are proven assets.
Threats: Hyderabad played an entertaining cricket in the last season and were a lawnmower on the field. Most of the time they were saved by the total they had put in as the likes of Mumbai Indians and RCB nearly chased their mammoth targets. Their bowling was the point of concern and it took time to get back on track. The same was their letdown in Qualifier 1 and the top-order collapse in the final made SRH fall like a pack of cards.
