The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 kick-started on October 11. Tamil Nadu walked into the Indian domestic T20 competition as the defending champions and were also the most successful team in the competition winning the title thrice. After days of exciting cricket, the group stage came to an end on October 22.
The first round of the tournament saw some jaw-dropping performances on the cricket field and certain players rose to the occasion delivering a match-winning performances for their teams. However, there were a few of them that were quite exceptional and took the T20 competition by storm.

5. Vidhwath Kaverappa vs Jammu & Kashmir (5 for 11)
Karnataka were locking horns with Jammu & Kashmir in a Group C match at Mullanpur on October 16. After electing to bat, Mayank Agarwal & Co. posted a par score of 147 runs on the board, courtesy of knocks from Manoj Bhandage (41 runs off 23 balls) and Shreyas Gopal (48 runs off 38 balls).
It required an inspired bowling effort from Karnataka to stop Shubham Pundir & Co. from achieving the target and it was Vidhwath Kaverappa who led the way with the ball. Kaverappa ran through the Jammu & Kashmir batting lineup picking four wickets in his spell with the new-ball leaving the opposition reeling at 23 for 5.
Kaverappa capped things off in style knocking over Umran Malik in the 19th over of the match to bundle out Jammu & Kashmir for 113. The Karnataka pacer registered his career-best figures of 5-11 in 3.2 overs.
Kaverappa has been simply sensational in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy so far bagging 15 wickets in seven matches at an economy of 5.65 and Mayank Agarwal & Co. will hope he continues his rich vein of form in the knockout stages.
